Launched at Kellogg at 7:10. Reading sonar just past the bridge heading out there was no reason to go any further. Lowrance was covered up with huge bait balls - tons of goods sized fish and the surface was bustin in every direction. The only live bait we had were med shiners which we put down 4 at a time in 15 feet over a 28 foot bottom - but did not get bumped once. So we trolled around slowly throwing spooks, redfins and lipless cranks at the busters and couldn't get them to hit either. The surface breakers were chasing small shad out of the water and we just figured with all the bait balls below, our med shiners were just outgunned.

We left all these fish (never leave fish to find fish!) since they wouldn't bite and hit Galts Ferry. Not much there but we saw huges schools breaking near the coves and chased them a while with no luck. Headed to the west side of Galts, found a few fish, finally got nibbled but thats about all.

We went swimming the rest of the day as it got hot. The skunk ruled the day. Curious to hear other reports.

I haven't been on the lake for a couple weeks, but the next time you see them busting, try this.

Go and get some Flex It spoons in white (the smaller sized ones). Tie it on a spinning reel and put a swivel about 1.5 ft. up the line. Next time you come across a school, launch it in the middle and then reel it as fast as you can. Pop the rod tip some, and that will make the spoon hop just out of the water every once in a while. You should be able to catch as many fish as you want. I've been fishing the spoon like that for about a year now, and have yet to find a school that wouldn't eat it.

sounds like a plan - I've got some of those in my tackle box. Have you had success when single fish are busting?

Thanks for the tip!

If its just one fish I wont cast to it. Now if a whole school comes up that is a different story.

Mike and I slammed them Sat am. Hice whites and HYd. on a flex spoon.

Had to work at them. Was actually able to go vertical on them. Double hook up's that way.

It was a good day.

Dan

Very cool Dan! I didn't get out this weekend, but the past weekends have been pretty good for the white fish, espically early.
